TECO Energy keeps the energy flowing in west central Florida and New Mexico. The firm's Tampa Electric unit distributes power to more than 715,000 customers and has about 4,668 MW of generating capacity. The company produces almost all of its electricity from coal. It also distributes power to customers in New Mexico. TECO distributes natural gas in Florida through its Peoples Gas System unit (more than 360,000 customers) and in New Mexico through New Mexico Gas Co. (NMGC, more than 515,000 gas customers). It exited the coal mining business with the sale of TECO Coal in 2015. In mid-2016 the company was bought by Emera for $6.5 billion.
